“Links are 90 percent of the equation,” said Nik Papic as he explained Search Engine Optimization (SEO) to NYWICI members at the Mar. 16 Digital Salon: SEO Part II – Optimizing Traffic from Search Engines.
Papic, who launched his career by successfully expanding page views of Gamers.com to more than 5 million a month and improving SEO for sites like EarnMyDegree.com (now Education Dynamics), works at Squarespace, an online platform for website and blog development.
Using a mix of informative lecture and real-world examples taken from audience suggestions, Papic guided those in attendance through the complex world of SEO and gave some concrete steps to maximize website exposure.
The takeaway? Nothing beats “linkbait," or really good content that “encourages natural, editorial links” to your site. The more outside links to your content, the higher-up your site will appear in search engine results.
Other helpful tips included ensuring your website architecture follows the “three click rule” to guarantee it is user and search engine friendly, and employing the most popular keywords for your brand in the tags and text of your site.
