Cocktails & Conversations: Changing the Face of an Industry

February 21, 2017

NYWICI invited members and their guest for an evening with Madonna Badger to examine the harm that objectifying women in advertising causes society as well as businesses, and what we can do about it.

Read our event coverage.

After tragically losing her three daughters and parents on Christmas Day 2011, Madonna eventually returned to work at her agency with a new purpose in life in honor of her daughters: to never again objectify women in her agency’s advertising, and to call on the industry to do the same.

Women account for nearly 85% of all consumer purchases, yet many advertisers continue to speak to them in a degrading way.  After googling "objectification of women" and subsequently pouring over countless advertisements, Madonna and her agency set out to change the conversation and remind the world that we are #WomenNotObjects.

Since #WomenNotObjects launched in January 2016, it has been viewed over 45 million times in 175 countries.  Madonna and her agency are now dedicated to authentically portraying women and are raising the standards in the industry for how brands talk to women.

Madonna Badger is the Founder and Chief Creative Officer at Badger & Winters, an advertising, branding and design agency that was named a 2016 Advertising Age Small Agency Award winner. Badger & Winters specializes in building brand love with women. Madonna speaks on gender equality and the harm that the objectification of women in advertising has on our youth and on business in order to drive change in the advertising industry. Most recently she provided the keynote at the 2016 5th Annual 3% Conference, and has been named the See It Be It Ambassador for Cannes Lions 2017.
