Recently, cash mobs have been in the news about the positive impact they are having in support of local businesses. For those who don't know, a cash mob is similar to a flash mob, except people converge on one local store at a set period of time, specifically to buy things... with a $20 spend per person.
This idea, originating last fall, has become an international movement to provide a financial and morale boost to local business owners, while generating a sense of community - part of the "rules" are to meet new people.
Events are arranged through social media, generally Facebook, Twitter and Meetup, with the location not revealed until the day of for added adventure. Generally people go out and celebrate after the shopping excursion, so it is really supporting two businesses.
