As a two-time New York Women in Communications scholarship winner, Matrix Monday has very special meaning for me. Not only did I get to meet and share the stage with some of the most well-known and influential women in the industry (Tina Fey! Oprah! The list goes on…), but I got to experience all of it with my 18 fellow scholarship winners.
What made the day even more unforgettable was knowing that the women who support us and help make many of our dreams come true — the board and members of New York Women in Communications — were in the room cheering us on and sharing the day with us.
As my scholarship “sisters” and I went through the day’s festivities, from our television debut on NBC’s Today to our onstage debut at the Matrix ceremony, the excitement in the air was truly palpable. I couldn’t stop smiling, even when I wasn’t posing for pictures!
The little moments made the day wonderful. From NYWICI board members’ encouraging advice to my mother telling me how proud she was that I was involved with this organization, Matrix Monday showed me just how much of a positive impact NYWICI has made on my life.
Though I’m still basking in the glow of Matrix Monday, I feel so grateful that it is only the beginning of a lifetime of valuable networking, career development and perhaps most importantly, strong friendships. Knowing that I have the opportunity to give back to NYWICI and receive the support of so many successful and smart women gives me the confidence I need to achieve my dreams.
