Panel to Discuss the Role of Women in this Historic Election and What’s Ahead for 2012
New York, NY (November 5, 2008) — On November 13, 2008, New York Women in Communications, the largest professional organization of women in communications, will bring together leading female political figures and pundits to tackle the weighty issue of gender in the 2008 election in a not-to-miss panel discussion. Confirmed panelists include Arianna Huffington, co-founder and editor in chief of The Huffington Post; Geraldine Ferraro, former U.S. Representative and the first female vice presidential nominee; and Marie Wilson, president, The White House Project. The panel will be moderated by Carol Jenkins, president, The Women's Media Center.
The 2008 election was remarkable on several levels and broke a number of records – from Hillary Clinton’s historic run for the presidency, to Barack Obama becoming the first African-American President-elect, as well as the selection of Sarah Palin as the first Republican vice presidential nominee. Panelists will discuss the portrayal of women on the campaign trail, how the media has covered gender and the historic nature of the 2008 race, as well as look ahead to 2012. Attendees and panelists will reflect and discuss the election, plus confront the big questions - What lessons have been learned in this election cycle and what’s next in the political landscape? Who:
