networking opportunities
New York, NY (September 24, 2008) —The New York Women in Communications Foundation—created to support women who are planning on entering or transitioning into the communications field and the largest foundation for communications scholarships for women in the tri-state area—this fall, will proudly offer a variety of special events aimed at those entering or advancing their careers in the communications professions. The unique events include:
Behind the Scenes at “Good Morning America”
On September 25, the New York Women in Communications Foundation will offer a special opportunity to go Behind the Scenes at “Good Morning America.” Millions of Americans begin their day by receiving their news from Diane Sawyer, Robin Roberts, Christopher Cuomo and Sam Champion. For the first time ever, the New York Women in Communications Foundation will offer students and young professionals an inside peek into this top-rated morning show as well as the opportunity to meet the professionals who make the show happen every day, both on and off-camera. In addition, guests will be members of the show and have a special tour of the GMA studio.
Annual Communications Career Conference
The New York Women in Communications Foundation will also present its Annual Communications Career Conference on November 15. Students and those seeking career advancements or transitions will receive an unparalleled career-building opportunity to meet and network with more than 40 panelists from major companies including luminaries in the communications industries. Featured speakers include Debbye Turner Bell, author, “Yikes! I’m a Grown Up,” and contributor, CBS News’ “The Early Show,” and Kate White, editor-in-chief, Cosmopolitan. Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn from representatives from various major communications organizations including: Advertising Age, the Associated Press, The New York Times, Vanity Fair, The Star Ledger, Weber Shandwick, Planet Green, Time, Inc., Hearst Digital Media, NYmag.com, Treehugger.com, Essence.com, WABC-TV, CBS News and CW11.
Gratitude Breakfast
For the eighth consecutive year, the New York Women in Communications Foundation will host its Gratitude Breakfast on November 24. This unique event provides the opportunity to both support the Foundation and to display gratitude for those special people in your life – a friend, relative, colleague or mentor – through the purchase of single and paired tickets. The program this year will feature special guest speakers Kathleen Turner and Gloria Feldt, collaborators on “Send Yourself Roses – Thoughts on My Life, Love and Leading Roles.”
“The Foundation’s goal in planning these events is to provide students and women interested in, or already employed in the communications professions with the opportunity to further themselves professionally and personally. The Gratitude Breakfast provides an added bonus to give back at the same time,” explained Kristine Welker, President, New York Women in Communications Foundation.
The Foundation is a charitable arm of New York Women in Communications—the leading professional organization for women in communications in the New York City-metro area, dedicated to promoting the highest standards throughout the industry.
